Your Great Grandmother's Can Opener

While drooling on the display cases at my local knife shop recently, I happened to spot this little feller lying there lookin all lost and confused. Thought he needed someone to take him home and give him a place to stay.

This thing is solidly built with the look and patina of cast iron. The blade appears to be held on by brads and I would assume it could be replaced........that is if you could ever find another blade for it.

Writing on the blade says "PEERLESS" over "Pat. Feb. 11-'90-" I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that was 1890 not 1990.

First one of these I have seen. Anyone have any info or remember when these first came out?

Nice one Woosey. Only took me a year and a half to find your post.

I can see from the pics how that would work and it's a clever design. All you need to do to get that jar lid off is TWIST!

Phil, i dont have an answer for you ,but heres one i sold on Ebay a couple years ago. It was marked U.S. on the shaft.

Anyone have an idea of age? Nasty devil to use. Slightly better than a sharp rock.
