Got this older Schrade equal end or cigar jack at an antique show yesterday,3-5/8'' closed,found something close in one of m books(2973)can anyone give me any other info,thanks.

Greg, I think your knife is a 2173. The 2973 is 4 1/4" long, while the 2173 is 3 5/8" like yours.
It looks to be in great condition, and if that price tag is correct, you stole it!!

Wow,too weird Eric,was told it was made about 1926.Question---the stamp side seems to have been polished while the other side of the blade has more of a "finish",i have another Schrade polished the same way,any reason?

Greg, most of the good quality knives were made this way, especially the more utilitarian ones. Since the mark side is the side you normally see, they gave it a mirror finish with the crocus wheel, while the pile side got the glaze finish. Often this was only done on the master blade, and was referred to as "polished mark side". A side advantage was that this also helped sharpen an etch when used. The top quality gents and MOP's got the full crocus polish on both sides of all blades. Nowadays when a cutlery uses this term, it's to show that their blades are finished by hand the old way, since such a process can't be accomplished by tumble polishing (although they now use the big fluffy buffing wheels rather than the hard crocus wheels, which tends to soften the edges).
