Space Age Camillus Utility

Post by muskrat man »

Been a while isnce I posted anything. This was a U.S utility knife issued to a Bomb technician. I replace the metal handles with some silver twill fiber bolsters and black micarta handles. And what knife doesn't benifit from a little vine? :)

Nice job!!!!!!!!!!!! Do the back springs need to be the same width (thickness), to do a corresponding file work? Again way cool.

Nice look Kaleb. ::tu::
Is that an onlay to the old handles or did you remove them and make liners?
I am curious as to how strong that twill fiber bolster material is.

Thanks guys.
Gary, no they don't have to be but it sure looks better if they are.
Dale, It's G10 so it's pretty strong stuff. I used the old handles for liners, they were nice and heavy which was what I wanted for a knife that wouldn't have metal bolsters. Technically the U.S marked utilities didn't have handles, just thick liners, the inner skeleton liners were necessary for the blades to close properly. No sense making new ones, when the originals are nice heavy duty stainless. ::shrug::

Ah ha! I was hoping you'd show us what you were gonna do with that Silver twill you were hunting around for :) You don't get to see it every day, and I always liked the look of it. It always looks like there's texture even without it actually having any. And while you're right that everything looks a little better with vine, You do some of the best, so that's a bit of a weighted statement :P

Good job sir!
