Well, my first try at bone handles. Not as difficult as I imagined, but peening was tedious. I use a 4oz hammer, so theres alot of "little" pings instead of big whacks. I got stupid and tried to countersink the holes for the pins. Managed to do five out of six before the bit skated on me, and buggered the handle. I think it gives it character,....... yeah, thats it !

The scales were really dark, almost black when i got em, and I was scared they wouldn't lighten up. But after sanding / buffing, they came out almost a strawberry color. You can definately tell i shaped it with a Dremel, but thats ok, it was fun. Used a Micro Mesh kit (3200 - 12000 grit) to polish it out. I don't think I'll get that mirror finish you guys get without a sander.

Dang this is fun !! Of course my shop smells like a dentist office now.......

Nice job, most especially for the first time working with bone.
It looks like you got a good fit on the scales.

I usually hand sand bone handles up 2000 grit then use 3M polishing paper. I finish it by polishing with No Scratch Pink. It leaves it nice and smooth.
