ENHANCED GEC'S

Post by Gunstock Jack »

A guy just can't be completely happy unless he's got a few customized models in his favorite patterns! :( I was lucky enough to come upon some mammoth ivory for rehandling purposes. :D This 73J flat bolster was done in some material I had stabilized:

Earl; that material was stablized by K&G Supplies and they do a fine job of custom stabilization. When the material comes back, you can't see any resin at all, only smell it, so I don't know how to answer your question as to what causes the spalted look, other than that's just how it came out. I actually was suprised when I saw the results, as the stabilized pieces didn't really look any different on the surface than before the process. I have some more knives being done up, and at this point don't know how they will come out, so stay tuned!
Here is a piece of stabilized mammoth ivory befor being transformed into knife scales for a 73:

Great looking stuff gents!

Been thinking about picking up a single blade #23, 73 or 72 to customize. Need to give my KMG grinder a GEC workout.

I think I've showed this off once before...a Ben Hogan with amber stag bone scales, but now it's got a really neat back pocket sheath made by Knife Leather Traditions. It's not a carry mode for everyone, but for those that do it is a nice solution..... ::nod::

Up for consideration is some Roosevelt Elk for rehandle material. This is shed antler and no animals were injured or killed.

That's a nice looking chunk...I can see some pretty knife handles coming out of that... ::tu:: ...I see you found the stag honey hole...

The top knife is American Elk...bottom is European Red Deer stag, file work and rehandling by MM.

Thats a nice rig. I like carrying bigger knives in my back pocket but they usually end up twisted around in an uncomfortable position. I may have to try and make something similar. Really good idea
