All About Pocket Knives

Hey guys I recently bought a knife on ebay that said it was 'MINT'

Unfortunetly the knife arrived with scuffed and tarnished bolsters. The knife is a pretty rare design and rather than returning it I was wondering if there was anythning I could do to polish the bolsters back to the original mirror finish.

If they're just scuffed, I've found that Brasso does a good job. There are probably better products to use, but Brasso has always worked for me and doesn't scratch.

Semichrome and elbow grease work well in such situations.

I'll try the polishes you guys have listed. Thank you for the help! I was also thinking I might try to take it by a jewelry store to see if they can polish it up for me...

Here is the knife. First one I've seen that isn't a Johnny Cash or Texas Swing.

Those bolsters shouldn't be to tough to get back to a mirror like finish.

I agree with Phil, a soft cotton cloth with a little Semichrome or Metal Glo....those bolsters will be like mirrors.

Semichrome, Metal Glo, Brasso, Flitz....even that real soft scrub they use for glass stove tops. Any mild, gentle abrasive. Nice trapper!

flitz and a microfiber towel work great some times the microfibertowel is all u need

I usually just use a silicone cloth. I found it at academy. It is used to polish guns and what not. Is that an okay cloth to use?

I'll research the polishes you all listed and decide which one I think I might go with.

If the scratches are deeper, I would use 3M polishing paper.
Start at 400 grit, go up in increments, 600, 1200, 4000, 6000 and finish with 8000 grit. Cover the handles with heating duct tape (the aluminum kind) and you won’t harm the handles, nor remove a lot of metal. Start to finish it will take about 20 minutes.

+1 for polishing paper, I found out that high greet paper is excellent treat for scuffs and scratches. I usually use 2000 and up grit or very fine polishing stones.

I keep a womans nail polishing block handy and it polishes bolsters and blades pretty darn nice. Works great on brass. It also can touch up an edge pretty quick if it just needs a light polish.

They wash up easily and usually cost under 3 dollars.

A Scotch bright pad works well also.

Cape Cod cloths work great but they take some elbow grease.
