Not a counterfeit but misleading, any comments

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Not a counterfeit but misleading, any comments

Post by deanmm56 »

So, I saw this knife on Ebay : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 514wt_1269

And really didn't like the heading of " Stag Handles " so I sent the seller a note "

The handles on this knife can either be stag or delrin .... but they can't be both !!!! Realize you are trying to pump up the item for sale but please ...... the handles are indeed delrin. Schrade, especially with the Uncle Henry brand used " stagalon " as their handle material ..... delrin made to look like stag ...... Please adjust your ad accordingly, very misleading.

His reply : and I quote "
This is Schrade Walden.......The handles are Stag Delrin......This is not staglon.....If this knife were genuine stag, i would have 125.00 on it friend....Maybe if you have time and want to debate me, you can call me at 615-473-4388....My name is Philip........"

So, now I'm really curious and asking some of you Schrade experts to please help me define " stag delrin ?????

It's not stag delrin, if anything it is slab cut delrin. As you pointed out, Schrade referred to their stag delrin as stagalon, which is textured to resemble stag.

Dean , Here is the same knife listed by someone who knows what he is talking about . ::tu:: (wood grain delrin)

Bob

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Schrade ... 1c1e9e762a

I sent him the following email . Let's see if he responds .

This knife's handles are not stag delrin - they are wood grain delrin . The "S" following the 204 denotes that it has a shackle or bail affixed to the end . Bob

Thanks Bob,

While I am not interested in the knife ( to buy anyway ) I thought the heading to be very misleading. Of course my political correctness and flair leave something to be desired. I just hate to see some young beginning knife collector to be spend more because he/she thinks the handles are stag.

I have been through all of the Schrade catalogs & price lists from 1953 to 2004, as well as several printed between WWII to 1953. I have also been through hundreds of flyers, but I have never seen Schrade use the term “stag Delrin.” Did I miss something?

The price is about 3 X the mint price for that knife, and he only calls it near mint. ::shrug::

I wonder if this is the Mr. Haney from "Green Acres"?

If you check out the prices of the other knives that he has for sale on ebay it is all relative . It is hard to believe that he could so much positive feed back and sales activity . I guess that there is one born every minute ! :?

And, if you think the first knife in question was dubious as to the " stag handles "

he has another listing : http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAMILLUS-USA-KN ... 721wt_1269

realize it should be in another forum ....... but this guy really overuses the word " STAG "

Indian Stag is the Camillus trade name for that stag patterned Delrin, just like Staglon is the trade name Schrade used for their stag patterned Delrin. He is technically correct there though I think he should have said it is Delrin & not real stag.

I did email him on Schrade Walden 206 and said basically what I posted above.
This was his response:
Ok friend i changed it......I did get an offer for 2.00 so i think i paid to much for it now...Oh Well....Just glad i did not buy gold at 1900.00......One thing for sure, my electricians knife has really become a conversation piece!!!

We exchanged 2 or 3 emails and I told him I would ask $30-$35 for the 206 dead mint in box with papers, (then take offers). He said he paid more than that, $40-$45.

He seemed to be a nice guy, but he definitely over paid IMHO.

Dale,

Thanks for the info on the " Indian Stag ", duh, I thought the guy was trying to say India Stag and got it mixed up.

He also sent me an email letting me know the wording had been changed. I thanked him for his professionalism, hope he sells the knife, but like you, I think he way overpaid.
