Well Big Monk, if you're just gonna have one, thats as good as any. Really nice! ::tu::
I have a few of the Imperial autos with shell handles. I'll try to get some pics up one of these days.
What i'm looking for right now are blueprints of some of the older autos. Springer, Presto, SureSnap, EdgeMaster, Imperial/Hammer Brand and some of the other German and Italian makers. I picked up a box lot of parts knives and not sure where to start with 'em.
I havn't tried a Google search yet, thought i'd try here first. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. WB

WB, pm me your address and I will send you a copy of this.
I don't have the angles dimensioned, so you will need to bend them to match this form.

I used a hand saw blade for the spring stock. It needs to be cold formed because it's
tough to get the hardness correct if you don't have a RC tester.

PM sent Joe, thanks! I had wondered about using tines from a good quality leaf rake for the throw springs. They're essentially tempered to a spring hardness. ::shrug:: WB

Very nice wazu! A couple of those are very similar to ones I have in this repair/rebuild bunch.
On the Hubertus, is the primary the only auto blade? I like it best! ::nod::

The primary is the only auto. The knife is a beauty though.

wazu, beauty is an understatement! That knife is outstanding!!
IM, what can I say but WOW!
In this bunch of basket cases, there is one old Solingen Cut. Co. Springer. If I can get that knife to look even half as good as these others, I will be a happy man!! ::nod::
Jethro, thanks much for the tip! I need to sort through the listing of newsletters to figure out which ones have the knives I need info on. Another trail to follow and it's all good.
As an update, it took almost 9 hours but I finally hit pay dirt on some of the knives. Through patent searches I was able to get fairly detailed, scaled drawings and full descriptions of assembly procedures on the Schrade Presto, the Schrade EdgeMaster and Imperial's toothpick autos. They were in PDF format and I was able to print off copys of each. Joe Dirt has graciously offered to fill in some of the gaps and spaces not covered in the patent drawings and/or descriptions. Thanks again Joe! And thanks to everyone posting, the pics are very inspiring. I have a few good autos, but hope to be able to post a few of these i'm reassembling one day. WB

Great bunch of knives, guys! ::tu::

Muskrat Man is "the go to guy" for the Hubertus knives. He usually
has a bunch of his customs for sale at SharperDeals! He really
knows what makes um tic, umm... I mean "flick".

WB, can you post the links for the patents on the Imps, Edges, & Schrades?

Hey Joe, go to google.com/patents. Patent numbers are Schrade Presto 2188762, the Edgemaster is 2304601 and the Mirando Imperial is 2705832.
The google site was easy, the hard part was tracking down the right patent numbers to search. If you can find 'em, i'm sure there are dozens, if not hundreds, maybe even thousands of other knife related patents you could access from the google site. I was pretty much brain dead by the time I got to the point I did. I havn't been back, but there may be a word search at the google site that you could use to track down patents using say the inventors name? (i.e. Schrade, Mirando, etc..) At any rate, you have to have some amount of info going in to do the search. Hope this helps. WB

Thanks WB! ::tu::

Here's some pics of the button assembly and the spring on the Imperials.

The shell holds the assembly in place.

nice of joe..for sure...but....

that style of opening mech is a bear to create...and making scales for that type button is even worst...

Gringo summed that up pretty well. It's nearly impossible to duplicate those parts.
The button is bradded to the sheer and the sheer is a maze of compound radius's in itself.

Something I have done in the past is to fill the shell with led solder. This gives the whole knife a
different feel, heavy and a more sold action!
If you do decide to led the shell, it is best to thru pin it. (the tabs aren't strong enough to hold the handles on)
This too will add to the characteristics of the heavier knife.

I'm thinkin I may have sent Orvet a leaded shell, to show him what I was talking about. ::nod::

Anyhow, if you have the parts, that's how they go together.

I'll take the two yellow Colonials apart soon and post pics of how there assembled. (these 2 combined will make 1 nice knife)

NOT trying to hijack the thread, but I'm in need of the small parts for the Imperials and Hammer Brands.
The buttons and locks are what I need the most. Sooo.... if anyone has any parts or part knives, PLEASE let me know!!

Thanks,..... Joe

Very nice grouping there Joe!
I havn't had time to go through all the pieces and parts yet to see what might be missing. I do have a bit of an advantage though, my brother not only has a smithing shop, but he also has a full blown machine shop. I'm probably a little prejudice, but IMHO, he's pretty good in both of those areas. Aaand...he may not know it yet, but he IS going into the auto knife repair hobby with me. :D
I'm not sure if all these "Humpty-Dumpty's" are going back together, but between the two of us, (and of course with the help you and others have given) I think we'll probably be able to get atleast some of 'em working again. I just wish he didn't live 3-1/2 hours away.
Don't worry about hijacking the thread, the title was meant to be an open invitation to all things concerning autos, switchblades, button knives, A/O's....it's all good.

The Colonial Sure-Snap.

Colonial makes the Imperials look like Frank B's when it comes to there construction!
EVERY pin is hollow!! Even the spring is held in place by a TAB punched in the frame!

The sheer is of a much simpler design and works exactly the same as the Imperials.
The retaining spring is pined to the frame and there really isn't any reason to remove it.

From the 2 knives i disassembled there were 2 different design slide locks.
Both locks are interchangeable and 1 works just as well as the other.

Here's the button/lock assembly for the Colonial Shur-Snaps.
