What to clean plastic handles with.

I was wondering if anyone knows how to clean platic handles or what to clean it with especially.I am having problems cleaning the grooves on rough black.How would you preserve it also. Thanks Dennis

I would first try hot soapy water and a toothbrush. This should take care of any thing down in the divots, past that a light run over a loose muslin cleaning wheel should bring everything back to life.

This is a problem I have struggled with also. I just got a bristle brush for my Dremel & I intend to try that. I have wire brushes for my Dremel, but they don't work too well on plastic. I have used an old battery powered toothbrush and dish soap, though toothpaste might work well as it has some abrasive in it.

Depending on what the material is, Armor All may be a good choice for preserving the handles. I have used it on Delrin handles on Buck and Schrade knives with great results. I swab it on with a Q-tip, let it soak in for a minute and then wipe it off with rag. A toothbrush and dish soap usually gets them clean for me. Those little green scotch brite pads can also help, but don't use too much force or you'll scratch.

P.S. mineral oil will have similar effects as the Armor all, but it takes a bit longer to penetrate.

Armor All sounds like it might work on Delrin that has oxidized. I had not thought of that. I will have to try it.
