Big Bolsters and Bocote
I picked up this like new Imperial electricians knife off the "bay" and was dissappointed to find that it had shell handles/bolsters and thinner blades. I was expecting something more like a Camillus. Imperial even went to the trouble of making the liners look brass (they ain't!)
I've been wanting to pit together a Barlow type knife anyway, so I figured this 'un would be a good candidate to try.
I like more than one blade, so I decided to try to fashion something useful from the screwdriver blade unstead of tossing it. It was a bear to get together and I wasted what seemed like 6" of pin stock, but it came out better than I thought it would.
Thanks for looking

Nice. You're getting the hang of it rather quickly.

That looks awesome. You turned the screwdriver into the small blade? Good job.

Excellent work.
Hope you don't decide to start doing this for money. If so I'm in trouble

Appreciate the comments guys! This ones my favorite so far. Bigger than I want to carry, but not too heavy and feels good in the hand.

Super nice!
I would have liked to see some in-progress pics. Can't quite picture the conversion.

Glen, I didn't take any along the way because I didn't really expect it to turn out very well. Here's what it looked like before though.glennbad wrote:Super nice!

I flattened the ends of the liners, cleaned and soldered some big pieces of N/S on for new bolsters. I also cut the locking portion off the liner. The screwdriver blade got cut off and fashioned into a smaller "somethingerother".
The rear pin that goes throught the back of the springs is peened to the liners. The whole thing is then opened up like a fan and the scales are then pinned to the liners. (be sure to recess the bottom of the scales to clear that back pin) It's all folded back closed and the blades and front pin inserted.
The next on I do'll get an extra pin in the back of the bolster just for a little extra strength. I hope these pictures help some and I promise to do better next time.

Now I know what to do with all those screwdriver blades I've tossed aside.....
