Hi CT, the most common causes for a knife to loose it's W&T is either the tang of the blade wearing down, or a divot becoming worn i nthe backspring. This can be corrected by building it up with weld and working it back down to the origional size or so UI've heard. I have also heard that a pin wearing down could cause the blade to loose it's spring, but I have never confirmed this for myself.

I have successfully added some tension to a back spring by putting it in a vise and gently bending it to put more tension in it.
I don't know if that is the right way to do it, but it worked on one knife I did. Has anyone else tried this?

dale, that is exactly what i was saying. i prefer retensioning over any welding. you can ruin the temper quickly with heat. besides, i'm a terrible welder.

I have tried bending a couple of times, but it didn't seem to work for me, perhaps the tang was too far gone. I picked up an old cammilus TL-29 today, the tang looks a little worn and the snap isn't the greatest, I'll try bending that one and see what happens
