Kershaw Talon

I picked up this Talon from a guy selling a collection - he let it go for $20. I didn't even know what I was buying. I found out I got a pretty darn good deal. Anyone know much about these?

I don't know about the Talon, But I have a lot of Kershaws. I used to sell them when I ran a cutlery store in the 80's & early 90's. Being in Oregon, just down the road from Kershaw, I sold a lot of Kershaws.

Good quality knives for the price. Great user knives. I have several Kershaw users, never had a bad one.

I have a Ken Onion Kershaw that fires like a bullet and its a great EDC.

Can you post a pic of the whole knife?
From some of the pics I have been able to find on ebay, it looks like you have the titanium handled version. Is it the fine edge or part serrated? I believe they have ATS-34 steel in the blades.

The model is not in the '05 or '06 catalogs. One ebay seller on ebay said they were discontinued in the 1990's.

Kershaw has one of the greatest warranties in the business and some of the best customer service.

Almost 25 years ago I gave my Dad a D.W.O. Kershaw. They have a rubberized handle for good grip. The handle finally gave out. I took it into Kershaw for him. They didn't have the blue covers any more, so they gave me 4 different colored covers, extra screws & a brand new knife.

How is that for customer service?

I have about 30 Kershaws, mostly users. I really like them.

I have the Chive and Scallion and DWO. I like all of them. Good blade steel and smooth operation. DWO has a black rubber handle and is nice to get a good grip on.

One of my favorites is the Black Horse. Rubber handles folding hunter. I just picked up a Black Colt last week at a pawn shop for $5. I need to take it back to Kershaw for a new blade.

In the 10 years or I was in the cutlery business in Oregon (1981-1992) I think we sold more Kershaw than any other brand. It helped that it was right up the road from us. We sold a lot of them.

Well thats real good But I have a Buck 180 and it needs work and the company said send it and they will send me a new knife for it cuz they do not have parts to repair it anymore. The new knife to replace it is made in CHINA so I have not sent it to them yet.

Here is my only Kershaw and like you said well made and grate EDU.

Can you show it with the blade open?

I can't date it with any certainty, but do believe I have seen one before, possibly in the mid-1980's. IIRC, the pattern was short lived as it was not perceived as a good user, i.e., not comfortable to hold & use.

I just recently traded one of my Spydercos for a mint cond. Kershaw Ti Talon. From what I've researched, it's been discontinued for quite some time. I'm not sure it was made in the new millenium.

My Kershaw Ti Talon came in today. Wow! Not only is it a nice knife (The curved blade's kind of like a karambit), but it very smooth to open/close. It's nearly as smooth as my Benchmade HK with axis.

I liked it so much I negotiated another trade for the guys other Talon (A NIB G-10 model).

As much as I'd like to EDC the G-10 model, this Ti has been carried (Very little, but has some minor scratches), while the other is still in the original packaging.

If you can find one, I'd definitely recommend one.

IIRC, Talons were made in the mid- late 90's.
After they were discontinued, they were highly coveted by some of us for their use in the Pikal
methodology popularized by Don Rearic, SouthNarc, and others on certain self defense forums.

I bought one of those .22 cal Kershaws off the Snap - On truck in 1985. Really cool looking, especially with the holster, but impractical as stated. I always regretted letting it go, been trying to find one ever since.
