Schrade wooden BOXES sent to Australia.

Schrade sent knives and tools to Australia for many years.
Look at these Schrade boxes I have just found. Could anyone tell me what they were used for etc etc?
I have been told these boxes arrived in Australia, empty in a cardboard outer box.
Maybe they were give-a-ways for shop display.

Or were they shipped to Australia full of bulk knives or tools before 2004? … Ken

Those boxes were requested by a large sporting goods company in Australia. I forget who but next time I am over at Canal street I will ask them . In any event they were a special issue made just for that order. Now Schrade also made a version with an plastic insert to be used as a cooler. Both of these items are fairly rare ( not impossible but definitely rare ). Back then I was in one of the offices and saw one and asked about them . ( That is why I am so clever and know the answer ). I immediately wanted one but was told that very few extras had been made for this one time deal. I was supposed to get one if they did it again. It took a while but a few years ago I was out on a Sunday with a buddy of mine he hits every yard sale and I hit every bar ( he drives ) it works out pretty good however due to his persistence he comes up with some great stuff. We stopped at one of the ex employees homes for a yard sale and as I was stumbling around telling him to get going when, out he walks with one of these wooden boxes. I sobered up immediately in fact I just sulked all the way home . Finally when we got home he had a couple of beers and swapped me for one of my doubles of a display case. Then he told me the guy had given it to him ( and a LB-2 ) for nothing he said that the guy said, that they had been laying around for years. Go figure. My friend just picked up two civil war muskets at a village wide yard sale, and a thompson for about 25% of what they are worth. I have to cut down on the crown and get more into the yards sales it is just the 100 yard sales full of crap that you have to go to before you find something good that drives me nuts. Anyway that is the story of the wood cases, They were not shipped with anything specific but were probably filled with the stores order. The ice cooler version was sold here or perhapes were give anyways should you chance upon one they are neat. LT

Sure will Ken. I was going to pick it up today, but my wife broke a toe last night and couldn't drive me down to get it. She is having knee surgery Monday, so it may be 2 or 3 weeks now before I can get down to my dad's place to get the truck.

Thank you for that small history lesson on that part of Schrade’s history.
Do you have any idea when these boxes were made..?
I find any of Schrade’s history hard to find, especially the late history from 2002-2004.
The knives that Schrade were getting made in China were very well made knives.
Has anyone written a book about the last years of Schrade, yet? I would like to read about that time in Schrade's History...Ken

It was after 2000 I do not remember exactly. Schrade did not make the knives for the Schrade multi tool how ever they were assembled in the USA. As far as other knives perhapes you know something I do not. In any event they were contemplating getting more involved with overseas companys. Frankly the entire story of the end years is one I have spoke of written of and no longer for several reasons attempt to explain. It has done no good to try to explain in the past and I can see no reason why it would do any good in the future. Any facts which displease anyone for whatever agenda they may have are reputiated with unsubstanciated statments and if the hue and hubbub they create is loud enough the truth is lost in the noise. I leave whatever is accepted to these purported experts who 20 years ago hell 10 years ago never knew Schrade existed who believe the history of Schrade is Uncle Henrys and Old timers and would not know a Schrade Cut from a paper cut. Purhapes the museum ( if I live long enough) will alleviate some of this but frankly this great American history is being lost by attrition people do notcare about there history or heritage. There fore they deserve what they get . Look around it is all over our country Schrade was but one example. Yes indeed when dad buys junior a new Schrade knife and the kid looks at it and says wow its a schrade, dad can now answer Yup the Chinese always did make a great Schrade knife. If someone did write a bookabout those years it should be called epilogue or eulogy for an american history. LT

I'm a history junkie from way back.
When I said I would like to know what was going on at Schrade in 2002-2004,
I'm more interested in the direction they were heading.
I have some of the 2004 knives that did not make it to the retailers, and seen some of the knives they had coming out in late 2004… I know a little about the other rubbish...
There must have been a lot of workers that were still working hard, not knowing what was going on in the Head Office.... Ken
