Need a re-handle, please!

Post by royal0014 »

I have an Imperial Ireland 3-blade electrician's knife that I bought off Flea-bay over a year ago. Circa 1991-92, it was still in the clampack when I bought it. I don't recall exactly what I paid for it, but I'm sure it was well under $20.00. Only a little rust on the backsprings. I had every intention of carry and using it for its intended purpose.

Long story short, when I put in my pocket and went to work with it, it simply was not comfortable to me. Too thick and bulky, though not really heavy. It only got carried that one time, and not even used.
::facepalm::

At 3 3/4" closed, not counting the bail, it is in my normal length range. But too big a bulge in the RFP. I thought of re-handling it myself, which is what led me to AAPK in the first place. After searching, reading, and studying, the job is really out of my league. Things like this take three things: Time, Tools, and Talent. The later two I am decidedly short of :roll:

So here I am, looking for a knife mechanic willing to take this thing on. I really want to keep the three-blade configuration, including the linerlock screwdriver. Lose the bail, and thin down the handle to even it out. As you can see in the pictures, the pivot end is right at 3/4", and a full inch at the bail. Not real sure what handle material would work. Some type of wood comes to mind. Though if someone thinks they can thin down the existing material (plastic) that's might work too.

In short, I'm looking for ideas, opinions, thoughts, and please, ball-park price quotes. If you don't think it worth the time, effort and cash, please say so. Depending on cost this maybe a 'Honey, do this for my X-mas' deal. ::nod:: Of course, time is not an issue, it's been on the mantle for awhile.

Thanks to all. I'll be checking my PMs and will respond quickly

8) ::handshake::

Well, I've never worked on one this new, but I would be willing to give it a go. Sending a PM.
