One Final Thought.............
After careful consideration,I have decided to stop posting on here and other fourms I participated in.I do this because I am tired of fighting with my computer. The latest thing to befall it is that it has decided not to let me post pictures anymore;not just here but every site.
I'm tired of having it tell me I'm low on memory after I have repeatedly cleaned it out.I'm tired of it taking too long to load a site. I'm tired of it telling me it needs to close. In short it has outlived it's usefulness.Come Wednesday it will be relegated to the trash.
I would like to say I have enjoyed conversing with you all over the years and have learned a lot as well as tried to impart whatever knowledge I have accumulated over the years. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Sincerely
Ray Smith aka Knife7knut

Dude!! Stripe a car and buy another even if it's used. Damn man, while I understand your frustration, I for one don't want to loose you.

Can you not see your way clear to purchase another computer?
You'll be awfully missed around here.

I hope you change your mind, Ray .......... I hope you will get another computer. you will love a new one that works, I went through all that crap too. It's frustrating, especially when your not tuned to computers like me.
I sure enjoy your great collection (there must be more to see) and all of your information.

Re: One Final Thought.............
I just had to have a new hard drive put into mine this year.
Not too bay for an almost 9 year old PC.
You might look for a used laptop Ray.
The guy I took my PC to sells refurbished laptops for $150, pretty reasonable I think.
I hope you change your mind, I will really miss your input on knives and I know others will as well.

As insidiously offensive as the personal computer might be, you would not even know Ray or be aware of him or anybody else on AAPK without it.
It's a quandary, isn't it?
Actually, this is the second time in a year or so that Ray has drop out off this site.
Maybe, that's just what he really feels he needs to do.
Bad for us.
I hope it's all good for him.

Re: One Final Thought.............
charlie, that thought crossed my mind as soon as i first read his post. we all can use a break from the everyday world sometimes. but it is always hard to walk away from something you have a deep feeling for.
ray has stepped up to the batters box again today... i hope he hits a homerun, or at least gets on base.
he certainly is a heavy hitter here on aapk and will be solely missed if he striles out.

Re: One Final Thought.............
Well not really back as my contract with Comcast expires tonight.Tonight is our 19th Anniversary and we had dinner reservations but had to cancel as both of us have a severe case of the flu(or something). My chest and stomach muscles are sore from coughing(I may have dislodged a rib that was broken many years ago)and my wife has been in bed for 2 days now.jmh58 wrote:He is back!!Where are those striping pics???
John
Sitting here playing around with what is left of my computer I finally figured out how to convert bmp files to JPEGs which will allow me to post some pictures that a friend sent me the other day. These were cars that we had collaborated on starting around 1970.The white Model T roadster with the supercharged Chevy motor was from 1959 when I striped it.This was the first car I painted that was to appear in a national magazine(Hot Rod November 1963).The pics were originally taken in 1961 and there was a 2 year lead time to get cars in Hot Rod.
The car was actually striped in two segments. The first was the top part that was mostly visible. The second was the night before the photographer was to do the shoot and we spent all night cleaning and detailing the car.It was decided that the underside should be striped so we set the car up on a contact lift in Ken's uncle's gas station and;using a reclining lawn chair I lay under the car with the lift almost all the way down and striped away.We had to keep re-positioning the lift as it kept wanting to come down.Should have put blocks under it but when you're 15 you don't think of stuff like that.
Strangely enough several of these cars still exist with the original paint and striping.I recently talked to the owner of the black Model A roadster pickup and he says there isn't one chip in the striping or the black lacquer! And that car was done in 1978.
The overhead view of the roadster was a car that I had flamed painted(with alklyd enamel)and striped in Charlie's living room(!)as his garage had no heat. His wife is still finding yellow overspray and never fails to let me know about it!
The pic of the two flamed roadsters:I did the one on the right;not sure who did the other.
Anyway here for your viewing pleasure are a few of the jobs I've done over the years. The dragster if I remember was done around 1968.The lettering is far from perfect;I've improved since then.
