As some of you already know, Colin Paterson (Realmontanan as he is known here on these forums) is re-handling an early 1970s Case Toenail and puting an image on it via scrimshaw.

I chose to use an early 70s knife because I have always thought that quality on Case knives kind of drops off in the seventies and even more in the 80s. I wanted real quality on this one (Colin is spending a lot of time and effort).
I'm rambling... to the point...
Colin sent me an email today with pictures of microscopic views of the backspring on the old sunfish. I don't know how he did it...? (microscope, camera, gum, duct tape, wd-40 or something... I don't know) It's amazing what you can learn about knives when you take them apart and look CLOSE at them. The first image is of the whole spring (non magnified) The second is of where the spring flexes. The next is where the center pin goes through and anchors the spring. Notice how rough these are.... Thought you all might like to see these...
