INFORMATION: Attempting to enter the First Cup Diner thread I received a warning of MALWARE AHEAD-GO BACK.

HAS ANYONE ELSE ENCOUNTERED THIS? This took place at 5:09 Pacific time.

i didn't come across that alert although i probably should have. it seems like two weeks now that every time i log onto the aapk site, my computer starts working really hard and the fan is going full blast to cool it. so there is something amiss here.

No problems with the normal threads, but did have a major glich when I tried to go to a link that was posted the other day. The link totally shut down windows and it had to do a recovery. I exited the link before it could try to reload and never went back.
Chet, not sure what program you're running, but you may need to do a disk cleanup and defrag, if you havn't in awhile. I do mine about once a month and it makes a world of difference in performance.

I use a window 7 system. Not sure what you are running but if it's windows I would use these.

They are free downloads and work like a champ for me. My pc guy put me on to them.

Disc speedup 1.4 it defrags
Registry repair 4.1 cleans the registry?

I can't explain in detail what they do but I know my computer runs like new and the downloads caused no problem or deleted anything that isn't ment to be there or saved by me. There were no problems with my norton 360 protection acting up or refusing to let them run. My norton 360 has a defrag option but my laptop runs much better using glarysoft.

You may already have some type of defrag to use. Open the start menu and type defrag if you have it it will come up in a line listing above. Once again I am speaking to windows OS.

You may also need to delete your prefetch and temp files, if you haven't done so lately.

Defraging is a simple enough procedure and part of the routine maintainance that should be done from time to time. It has a direct effect on a computers operating speed and can be fairly dramatic, especially if you havn't done one on a computer that's a year or more old.
Also a disk cleanup is a bit different than a recovery, the cleanup gets rid of all non-essential files that have been stored on your computer. Most of these files have been stored there without you even knowing it.
I know all these procedures can be a little scary, they were the first time I did them too. But they do work and make a big difference in a computers performance. Something that i've found is that, these procedures really won't let you do anything that will do any damage. It just organizes and/or gets rid of stuff that is cluttering up your computer.
I'm no computer whiz, not by a long stretch. But, I have learned to do the routine cleanup stuff as to avoid having to take it into a shop and paying to have it done. They were all designed to be user friendly, just gotta take the plung and give it a go.
Cutty, most of those things are actually built in to the windows programs. For me it's all in the "pc tuneups and helps" program when you click on start and then "all programs". It will make a computer run like new.

I suppose how often one defrags depends on how much a computer is used. I defrag once or twice a month.

About twice a week I use a program called Power Suite to remove various errors, mostly registry errors, that occur. There are other similar programs available. It only takes a minute or two. If these errors are allowed to build up as one uses different programs or moves around the internet, computer speed is greatly reduced. At least that was my experience. I found that a few minutes and a few mouse clicks a week on maintenance and "cleaning" keeps things running smoothly.

One thing I was not expecting. I recently made Google Chrome my default browser. Formerly it was Firefox. My computer speed has made a dramatic improvement. It was okay before, but now it's excellent.

If you are using a SSD, (solid state drive) do not defrag the drive. Make sure trim is enabled.
Some new laptops and desktops come with SSDs installed so check your manual if you are unsure what type you have.

There is software called Malwarebytes and it works real good. It is lifetime support and upgrades. 24$ on their webpage.
I have bought it on sale on newegg.com for 11.99$.
You can install it on a new computer after you remove it from your old one, that is a plus too.
You can download a free copy and use it, but it does not have active protection like the paid version.
But if you need to check your computer the free ver. works fine for detection and removal.

Yes there is a problem here. I use Kaspersky antivirus and in my notifications it blocked this address.

I noticed the warning a couple hours after opening up the morning coffee thread.
So I just tested it and came up with a 2nd warning. I never got this before.
I googled that and came up it is hosting malware and is a problem.

Webmaster needs to look into this.

Likely a suspect .gif image was posted somewhere on the page showing up with a warning. It would help to know exact web page to find it...

I found one a few days ago, & removed it asap, but it was not in that thread.

Google webmaster tools alerted me to it. After removal and re-check it shows that we are currently clean & clear of any malware.

.gif images that are posted from external sites into the thread can & do cause this sometimes. Might have to disable the ability to post 'em

Hi Bryan, yes when I click on that link it show up.
Bells a whistles don't go off, but when I check my reports it says it blocked malware
It did it this afternoon and just now 11:30pm Mar.2

The people that spread this crap need to be taken behind the wood shed and ..........

That one about the network attack has nothing to do with this.
For some reason my router keeps looking at my computer and the antivirus does not like being looked at!

Had no problem with the First Cup Diner thread yesterday. But have again just now received a MALWARE ALERT when clicking on that thread.

Found it & fixed it. This one was a .gif smilie posted into a thread from an external website. I'll look for a way to locate, eradicate, & prevent these incidences. If anyone runs across another malware alert, please forward a link to me where it occurred.

To be clear, the members who post these are not doing anything malicious. The images look perfectly innocent...

Looks like you did find and fix it, thank you.
I opened the thread and did not get a notice.

I sometimes wonder if antivirus software makers spread these things around themselves to sell software.
The e-mails with no subject header from friends or family with just a web link, are the ones that infected me a couple times.
Their e-mail accounts were infected, and spreading it through e-mail.
Had to reformat and start from scratch.
