If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Help Fight Alzheimers, Parkinsons and Cancer

Post by CobraBill »

I want to tell you all about a project from Stanford University called Folding at home. Folding@Home
It is a distributed computer program. Kind of like Setti at home, but fighting Alzheimers.
How it works is, you download a program and a work unit. Your computer crunches the work unit and sends it back.
Then you get another work unit and so on. You earn points for yourself and your team if you are on one.
AAPK could start its own team if you all wanted to. Or join one of mine or start you own.
I have been folding for over 7 years and I am closing in on 100,000,000 points, and 60,000 work units completed.
100,000,000 points and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee, not why I fold.
I fold to fight cancer, and all the other things they are trying to find a cure for. My way of giving back to society.
It all has to do with the folding of proteins in the body.
This link can explain it better than I ever could.
And a couple other links for your reading pleasure if you are interested.
I have never had a security problem, trojen or virus from them, they have been around for a long time.
You can fold with your CPU (main processor)or fold with your GPU (video card) or both.
I have 4 computers that run 24/7/365 You can fold as much or as little as you like or electricity you want to donate.
1: dual socket 2 quad core Xeon E5620 Asus server
2: AMD 1045T 6 core with a nvida 660Ti video card
3: AMD 1045T 6 core with Nvida 465 Video card .
4: Intel q6600 quad core with a gtx 260 video card.
All home made computers I put together.

Let me know if anyone is interested
