Can anyone share any info about this unique version of an 8OT that I just picked up? Same dimensions and blades as the regular Old Timer 8OT, except it's got black sawcut delrin instead of brown, and brass bolsters, liners, and shield...anyone know the skinny on this one?
(and what's up with the plain square shield? Is there supposed to be something engraved there...?)

All I can tell you is Schrade made knife for many business houses.I have one that a blank shield and with Schrade you could end up with the wrong blade in a knife. There is a lot of different knives with the 8OT blade.I have a 8OT Old Timer with a blade stamped Schrade USA. a 25OT Old Timer with blades from a Uncle Henry.
The more you look at Schrade you could find anything.

Re: Schrade 8OT, Black & Brass
They made them in black & brass for Copenhagen and for Sears/Craftsman.
As you can see below the Craftsman has its own tang stamp and number.
IIRC, many of the Cope knives also had a COPE tang stamp. It appears most likely to be a SFO of some sort.
I like the look of that knife, though it would look better with a smaller oval brass shield, IMHO.
The large brass square distracts from the flow of the design, IMO.
A very nice knife though.
I have not seen many black & brass 8OTs.

Re: Schrade 8OT, Black & Brass
Thanks for posting Grant and Dale....
I do have one of the Copenhagen knives, the small 12OT, that shield is pretty cool, and like you said Dale tha is black and brass also. I agree about the square shield looking a bit odd, that's why I thought maybe it was intended to be engraved with something...not sure what though. An oval would be more pleasing to the eye, but it is a big sturdy knife nonetheless!
