you wanted to see my reproduction neck of the Vega Tu-ba-phone # 9...It is just perfect and makes me want to play it constantly. Sounds great. I wonder if the Calf skin is the right way to go though? Sorry for the off subject post, but art is art wheather it be a knife or a banjer!

WOW DAVE!! That is stupendous. I really like the inlay work, and it is actually typical of the era, from the very turn of the century to the 1920's, for high end banjos. Looks like your guy got it right. It's an open back, right? I'd leave the skin head on just for that olde tymey sound and feel. I think the plastic heads sound way to crisp for the olde tyme music. Congrats, I love it.

TJ is right about the sound of the calf skin head, but they also stretch and relax in response to heat and humidity, prompting frequent retuning and/or head adjusting.

But, that is a beautiful neck. Did you carve the pearl inlays? They are really nice.

Does the pot have a Tubaphone tone ring?

All is original with the pot. It has tourtise shell binding and a screw on back. I will have to send better photos. Original MOP tuning peg buttons. The neck was done by Wyatt Fawley
