Australian Folder Maker

Post by gajinoz »

Here is a nice example of a nice traditional style from one of our top custom folder makers.

Blade and spring: 3/32" O1 Steel
Liners, Pins, Shield, Bolsters and Endcaps: 410/416 Stainless
Handle: Dyed and Jigged bone with a double pinned Sowbelly Shield

Milled liner relief, about a 7 on the pull scale for the main blade, 8 for the other 2 blades.

Wow, he does really nice work. Sucks to be a poor kid with my nose up against the candy store window.

That knife is by Alistair Phillips..........http://www.knives.mutantdiscovery.com/index.html
I didn't see all of the info JB was asking, but he surely has made some fine pieces.

Yes, Alistair.

Sorry, should have put that in the original post but I've had a dose of the flu lately and my brain is not functioning at full capacity.

(Yeah, I know, crappy excuse ..... :) )

Anyway, he calls it a Sowbelly, I'm afraid I don't know the cost, I think he may have sold it at the Melbourne Knife Show.

Aside from the website mentioned by IMBand, you can also see some of his work and discussions about it on australianbladeforums.com. He has his own sub forum there.

He has made some really nice stuff.
