Kabar tang stamp on a Barlow pattern

The KA-BAR brand originated as a trademark of the Tidioute Cutlery Company. Tidioute was later taken over & renamed the Union Cutlery Company which continued making the brand until Union eventually adopted it as the company name in 1952. Cutco Corporation later acquired the company in 1996.

Kabar tang stamp on a Barlow pattern

Post by steve99f »

I'm hoping someone can tell me if a "Kabar" stamped 2 bladed Barlow without any other stamp on either tang is legit. The stamp is on the main clip point blade. I'm thinking China but don't really know. OAL closed is 3.25 inches.

I know, pictures are worth a 1000 words. No camera. ::teary_eyes::

Just Kabar. No hyphen, no country or origin, no pattern #.

Hi Shearer!

It appears as though your stamp looks like KA-BAR, with the hyphen. Mine has no hyphen. Or any other identifiers. Thanks for posting.

It does have black synthetic handles.

I don't own kabar barlow, I do have a newer kabar Birdseye pocket knife. It has the usa and model number on it on the front of the tang. The ones stamped with a hyphen are usually the older ones.

Thanks for the reply 0078. I picked this up at the Easton, PA knife show this morning out of a dealers bargain bin so it's not like my retirement plan is wrapped up in this. Just would be nice to know is all.

First show for me. I've been to several gunshows in the area for many years and see many knife dealers there but have not been to a knife only show til today.

Did a little research, sort of. Went over to the member stores and looked at some Kabars being sold by a member, Sanders Knives. He had two with the same tang stamp, a peanut and a stockman, and they were indicated as pre '63. So maybe. It doesn't look that old. I do but it don't.

I'm going to attempt to attach a picture of the Barlow, thereby proving my skills as a photog suck.

garddogg,

Thanks. But the truth hurts, that orange background doesn't help things either. At least its kind of in focus.
