oL' Cut, Union Cutlery Co.

The KA-BAR brand originated as a trademark of the Tidioute Cutlery Company. Tidioute was later taken over & renamed the Union Cutlery Company which continued making the brand until Union eventually adopted it as the company name in 1952. Cutco Corporation later acquired the company in 1996.

oL' Cut, Union Cutlery Co.

Post by 268bull »

Picked up a couple of KA-BARS actually this weekend past. Nice 5.25 inch thin clasp, swell center. Red Candy stripe celluloid handles. Blade is good and solid, no wobble and good snap. Tang stamped oL' Cut, Union Cutlery Co., Olean N.Y. Second I believe is a WW 2 issue. Not the original handle, I don't believe. Handle is soft wood, either fir or white pine. Owner did do a good job on it though. Blade is in good shape, blood groove. Tang stamped KA-BAR, Olean,N.Y. Can't do pics at the moment. Hoping I was good ol boy this past year and Clause will bring me a new camera. There's a third one, a CASE. I'll mention it in the Case forum. Have a Merry Christmas folks. ::tu:: Bull

Hey Bull,
Yesterday some of the boys posted some good stuff on Kabar knives. The 1st tang stamp you mentioned looks like it is in the 1930-1955 era. Hope Santa brought you that camera ::tu:: , would love to see some Kabar pictures!

Hey Treefarmer, The candy stripe folding hunter, based on the new tang stamp post, list's that knife as being in production from '35 to 1945. Nah, I didn't get the camera, but I got a dang nice espresso machine. So if some of my post's come across a bit jazzed up, it's the espresso ! LIKE RIGHT NOW!!! ::woot:: ::tu:: Bull (P.S. I'll get some pics). Geez, I spelled pics wrong 3 times!!! Caffine ::groove::

Are you sure the wood handle is not original? Reason I ask is that I have an OLCUT fixed blade with a wood handle that is jigged to simulate bone and it is most definitely original. Here is a picture;knife is second from the top.
