An interesting news snippet I heard today...

It was reported that the cost of insuring the future stud value of a horse after winning the Kentucky Derby to race in the Preakness costs more than the purse. The report also inferred that if the Derby winning horse loses the Preakness, the value of the horse's stud service would decline, and from an economic standpoint was not a good risk to take.

They also said that the winner of the Bellmont's stud services is not affected much because of the race length. The endurance characteristics are less desireable than the shorter speedsters according to what I heard ::shrug::

I wish my stud service was worth that much. I think my lady friend must figure it real close to zero ::tear:: ::tear:: :lol:

A smart guy once said there was very little value in this race...oh, wait...that was you Mitch!! And, I think you are right. ::nod::

Of course, since it is horseracing/gambling, anything can happen. ::nod:: :mrgreen:

But, I'll guess Hard Spun gets no free ride from the speedball Flying First Class, who lacks enough versatility to do anything but go to the front, possibly with Xchanger as well. Seems like a good setup for Street Sense, but man, he better not be 15-20 back like the Derby ::doh:: . Curlin's speed regressed and may want longer ::shrug:: . I guess now that Circular Quay is in, and seems to fit the race, with right to improve as well...and the dosage works, I like Street Sense and Circular Quay in a box, but with much less gusto than I liked the Derby. ::huff:: :wink:

As always, JMO.

8) Bill; That, I think is a Great Exacta box, with Circular Quay at 8-1 and

maybe even going off higher at Race time, You are squeezing out some

Value on this Bet. ::tu:: Street Sense should win this race but of course

you never know. I got to tell you though, Hard Spun scares the Hell out

of me in this shorter distance. It all depends on how he gets out of the

Gate. ::shrug::

8) Bill; What did you think of the ride Street Sense had today? Did you

notice how the other Jockeys got smart and shut down any opening for

him along the Rail? ::paranoid::

I saw the avatar... ::tu:: ::tu::

I thought Borel felt it might be heavier down there... ::shrug:: ...so why was he there? Or, maybe he was worried they would shut the door down there, so he was BSing? I do think they shut that trip down on him pretty well. He (Street Sense) also looked like he got short, or maybe lost focus. I think a stronger rider like Pincay would've gotten him home...but that's racing.

A nice bounceback by Curlin. Maybe he is that good.

On to the Belmont in Elmont!
