Schrade Walden 899 circa??????

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Schrade Walden 899 circa??????

Post by bdev »

I just received this Schrade Walden 899 and really can't find info to date it. I already checked orvet's Open Stock and Older Stock lists.
I'm guessing 1970's because of the Delrin handles. Can anyone give me an idea of when this one was made?
Thanks.....Bruno

1960 to 1973. Before 1960 it would be bone. After 1973 the tang stamp changed.

I am not 100% positive on Schrade Walden's use of Delrin; I used to think mid to later 1960s, but now I have a 294 with Delrin handles and the pattern was discontinued in 1965, so I think Cal is pretty close on that 1960 date. I certainly couldn’t argue with it.
