Once in a blue moon?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Once in a blue moon?

Post by MikeB1953 »

We had a gun and knife show in my hometown last week, so with nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon, I thought I would blow some time I had. Not a big show, maybe 20 or 30 tables and more guns than knives. Walking around, i came across this happy looking gentleman that had 40 or 50 knives on display. My eyes wnt right to a knife that was familiar to me so I picked it up. He had a price of $15.00 on it. He said "Wanna buy it"?
Looking at it, it was a Schrade LB5. Blade stamped Schrade +? yep. Blade stamped USA? yep. So I said "sure". Now my father taught me never to look a gift horse in the mouth but it got the best of me. It was never sharpened, looked to have never been carried and only some surface scratches. So yea, I asked "Why so cheap". The guy looked at me and said "ever since Schrade went overseas, Their quality really went down". I paid him and went on my way. When I was 2 or 3 tables down from him, I saw him walking after me saying "HEY BUDDY, COME HERE". I thought well, it was good while it lasted. I pulled the knife out of my pocket ready to give it back to him when he said, "Here's the sheath that goes with that". Again, Once in a blue moon!

Well, he knew enough to know that the Chi-Shrades are not as good as the ones made in the USA!

Great Buy! ::tu::
