EDC Schrade mod

Post by orvet »

I put this knife together last week.
I had an Open Stock 836 (I think that is what it was), with a broken blade.
I recently acquired several blades for the Open Stock 893. The 893 was a SFO for SMKW and was not in the Schrade catalog.
This was an old 893 I had that was shipped in an 895 box

I wanted a nice slim Turkish clip single blade folder with a carbon steel blade. The 893 blade is carbon steel and fits the 3-9/16" frame of the 836. It also fits the Open Stock 236, 821, 823, 825, 836, 837, 895, 896, 898 & 899. It will also fit the 93OT, 89OT, 897UH and the 197UH, the Cats Paw liner lock with modification to the tang for the liner lock.

This modification makes a really nice slip pocket friendly EDC with a super sharp blade!

I am really pleased with the result of this little mod.

Since the 197Uh is my favorite Uncle Henry pattern I hope to put one of these carbon steel blades in a 197 frame and make a carbon steel line lock version of the 197UH. ::ds::

That is a super smooth, slim EDC you have yourself there Dale. Ticks all the boxes for me.
It is amazing what you can achieve when you have the expertise to work on knives. I can see why you are excited about that one.

Thanks guys. It is so slim in my pocket that I have to check now & again to be sure it is still there.
The Delrin handles means I don't have to worry about keys or change scratching nice bone handles.

According to my notes from the guy I bought it from, he said he purchased it from SMKW in 1991, so I am assuming it was made about 1990 as well as the other 893 blades I acquired recently. The steel in this blade is better than some of the later Schrade knives I have. Perhaps they had a change in the heat treating process? ::shrug::
All Schrade carbon steel is 1095, to the best of my knowledge.
