All About Pocket Knives

Here is a leather sheath I made for a skinner I made, I bought the blade and made everything else. Sheath is 100% hand made and hand stitched.
Man, I gotta get a machine if I keep this up.
But this one is hand stitched with 5 strand flax except the inlay which is hand stitched with 3 strand. The snake inlay is prairie rattler and uses 2 layers of 4-5 oz leather and a 7-8 oz welt and belt strap. All flax thread has been treated with 40% pine picth and 60% beeswax. The pine pitch acts as an anti-fungal and the beeswax will help as it acts as a lube when stitching. This is 100% harness stitched.
This is one of my own designs and only the second inlay I have done. I can see where I need to improve.

The handle is of stabilized Buckeye Burl by WSSI. Buckeye can't be used for handles unless it's been stabilized.

This sheath has been just been cased/deglazed and is still drying out. The knife is wrapped in plastic to protect the knife. This is so the sheath will dry out and form fit to the knife.

I will post another picture when I dye and finish it tommorow.

My son and I have had a lot of fun these last 2 weeks and made a few knives and rehandles. Best 2 weeks of our lives. YES, I fleshed snakeskins also

I think that knife and sheath means a lot to you now.
But knowing you, YOU will just give it away to him...

I see your son is useing 4 knives at the board, but I never seen you post them. What kind of knives are they ?

Well, one is one of my EDC's a Chris Bostwick, (that's the one that is sitting dangrously cutting edge up), the other 3 are old stainless steel kitchen knives that have been ground dull to scrape flesh.

That must have been great fun working with your son!
My youngest son comes over when he has time & we work on knives together. We have a blast!

This weekend I helped my oldest grandson rework his first folder.
Today another grandson & I will finish his first folder. Then tonight my wife & I will pick up another grandson & no doubt, he & I will do a knife also.
More fun than an old fart should have!
