Custom Schrade Walden 2OT Clone

Post by orvet »

Last year after I built the Ulster TL-29 for Tony that looked like an easy open version of the Schrade Walden 2OT, Rich (lt632ret) sent me a Schrade Walden TL-29 for a similar treatment. He wanted it to look more like the 2OT with ebony wood handles and no easy open cut out. Unfortunately we don’t have the fellow here in the US who engraved the bottom bolster of Tony’s knife. I didn’t ask him, but Rich may have the stamp they use to stamp “Old Timer” on the bolsters of the 2OT. That would look great if he could stamp the bolsters too.

The bolsters are the most difficult part of a knife like this, first of all attaching them with solder to the liners and making sure they are the same length on each side. I only had to take one off and to adjust the position and then re-solder it. Of course getting the grooves and the bolsters is always a challenge when doing it with a file by hand. Getting the pinch on the bolsters was a bit challenging also, as this is the first time I had tried that.

The rest of the build was pretty basic after the bolsters were added. I did polish the inside of the back spring, which makes it pretty shiny inside. The blade sets dead center of the pocket.
The blade did have some pitting in it that was a little too deep to be removed completely, however I was able to get the worst of it out.

All in all I thought it came out looking fairly nice.
At last I am finally starting to make a little headway on orders and repairs from last year. ::ds::

Dale, you have done it again my friend. A superb result from a classic knife. LT will be very pleased with the result.
It is a big job for you to remodel these knives, but you have smoothed out the complications, and it would appear that it was a lot easier for you with this 204, than my Ulster.
I have attached some pics of mine again, just to remind the member of the exquisite job you did for me.
Tony.
