Schrade Cut. Co. Push Button

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

New to me.
Through some reading I believe this is a 741...?

Blades appear factory sharp with some use.
Everything works as it should. Very little surface rust that oil and a rag took care of.
Fun little knife. Blades pop out and lock really well. Spring is in great shape.

That one is in pretty nice condition for its age.
Often one or both of the handles have cracks, but those look great! ::tu::

One question though-
Is it better for the spring to store with the blades open?

I store mine open if they have the leaf type springs like yours.
I know a couple serious $$$ collectors who store them open, but it is often debated among collectors.
I figure that even if it is not necessary to store them open, it certainly won't hurt them if they are open.
I have never heard anyone argue that storing them with blades open is bad for them. ::shrug::

With the coil spring design like Benchmade uses it doesn't matter as the spring is always under load.

That is a beauty there! I agree with Dale and I personally store/display all of mine with the blades in the open position. Just seems to be the right way to do it. Here is an older picture of the display case, I need to get a picture of the newer display I have then set up in.
