What are Buddies for?

Hmmm, Mighty fine question. Earlier this week I picked up the audio communicator and called a fella that I hadn't spoken to in a few days. He answered after several rings with a hearty hi WB. We chatted for awhile about what else knives. I know you thought I was gonna say girls, we have both had our experiences but choose to talk about our severe addiction instead. He told me of a recent acquisition a mil. knife signed O K , he finally says it does not mean Ontario knife, It is an Olson Knife. Kaleb may possibly recognize this.

I keep thinking to myself that something does not sound right. We are about a half hour into our conversation when I ask. Are you in a boat, yeah he says took the grandkids fishing in the Luckamute today. The names of Oregon rivers are so cool, they all bring a smile to your face when you hear about them.

It is related to me that one of the grandsons is just kicking butt today, Then it starts, I think I got a bite YES I have him on. Now rather than hang up on me he
proceeds to talk me through his fight with a sizable smallmouth bass. At one point he says did you hear him jump I replied with total disdain YEAH. Then he has the audacity to say, he splashed water in my face. After a few more exploits the fish is landed, where upon one of his grandsons in the background says Grampa can we keep this one. Okay he says, you want to keep a couple today then we go through the search for the stringer.

I believe it was at this point where he muttered you oughta be here. I knew that already. Now folks, that is a real buddy, one who will let you live his experience from 75 miles away. Thats how Orvet (Dale) does things.

In all honesty WB, if we had been talking the day I caught the 10 pounder, I would have probably dropped the phone in the bottom of the boat, or over the side (I have done that before). You would have heard a lot of hollering and my fishing buddy & son yelling, "Don't horse him" & "That is a monster" and things of that nature. Then a collective victory yell when we got him in the boat.
It would have been several minutes before I even thought of the phone.
But a 2 pounger is just a nice bass.
That reminds me.......the grandson is going home tomorrow & this afternoon is the last day we have to fish. I got to run as we are leaving to go fishing in 30 minutes.

That is a cool story Mossdancer and Orvet.We don't have that many smallmouth close to me in Okla. I caught a five pounder one day, took it home and was filleting it when a buddy of mine walked up and said" I've got one smaller than that hanging on my wall". It was too late to think about mounting it then, but oh well maybe next time I would love to catch a ten pounder,the biggest iever caught is thie 8 pounder

We have both smallmouth & largemouth in the Willamette River. We often end up catching both in the same day. They usually are in different type of water. The largemouth preferring the side sloughs and the smallmouth just off the current. At least that is the way they are here.

The 2 pounder WB was talking about was caught in the Luckamute, a tributary of the Willamette. The 10 pounder was caught in a slough off the Willamette. I doubt I could have landed a 10 lb smallmouth on the light gear I was using the day I caught the 10 lb largemouth. Smallies tend to put up a better fight than the largemouth, (not that the 10 pounder didn't put up a great battle on 8 lb line & a light pole).

Bass fishing has been a passion of mine for about the last 15 years. I sort of took up knife collecting for a winter time hobby, but it has become a year round passion as well.

It is nice to hear that other knife collectors share the same dual passions that I have.
