Best sharpening for early Schrade pocket knives?

I just got my first vintage Schrade pocket knife in the mail, I believe it's the S2153 in the 1926 catalog. I'm very impressed with the quality of this knife. Other than the blades being dull it's in very good condition, it snaps like new. I'd like to sharpen up the blades without making a mistake with chewing up the blade or having to make multiple purchases. What do you guys recommend? A friend says he has an old Craftsman electric wet stone I can have. I've been looking at the Steamboat rod sharpener but haven't been able to buy it because I'm not sure what to get. I almost bought a Lansky kit on ebay but was told they're not great for small thin blades. Im kinda lost on where to start for a first sharpener, any help would really be appreciated.

Riverside, welcome to the collecting of fine old knives! I have several different methods of sharpening my knives and all have their purpose. For touching up edges and keeping them sharp I love the Steamboat ceramic stick style and keep one on my desk (I have the version with both Medium sticks and Fine sticks). I use a Lansky kit for bringing back an edge if the angles are all screwed up - works good on stainless steel as well - and an old Browning Arkansas/Washita stone with oil for bringing back an edge when the angles are right (tougher to use on stainless though). The ceramic works better than anything for touching up an edge (quickly too) on both carbon and stainless blades. OH

Hey Old Hunter,

Thank you for the welcome. I like that 1970 Buck, a Schrade Cut Co got me collecting earlier this week. I like these ceramic rod sharpeners. I'm going to start practicing with some traditional stones first then probably go with the Steamboat. It's better priced and it has good reviews. Thanks again for the response.
