Looking for a specific knife

I'm new here and this is my first post. I'm not really a collector. I've accumulated a number of knives but have settled on one very useful tool that suits me well. A yellow delrin medium stockman in CV.

I'm looking for a specific case knife. My dad had a case knife and I regret to say that I lost it. I'm looking for as close a knife to it as possible. As near as I can figure it was a Small Texas Jack Knife in brown bone and CV. I know for a fact that he had the knife in 1965 and I would assume he bought it in the 40's or 50's.

Any help in locating such a knife or close to it would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

I can't help you with the Case knife as I don't collect them nor know much about them, but someone here will know.

You might also try this Brian. Google "vintage case texas jack knife" and then click on "Images." It will bring up hundreds of photos you can scroll through. If you find something similar to your dad's knife post the picture here, maybe explaining how your dad's differed, and the Case guys will help you out. By the way, if you Google the alternate spelling of "jackknife" it will bring up some additional images.

I think we need to narrow down the frame/pattern first and then we can go from there. Although usefull, anyone can name a knife a Texas Jack on ebay. No offense to anyone that suggested that.

Nail down the frame/pattern first. Forget about bone color, etc, for now. Only trying to help. I may have a candidate for you, maybe not but not the purpose of my reply. I would like to assist if I can in finding a replacement for Dad's lost knife if I can.

So here are two of my EDC knives (not for sale) that I took a picture of just now. The "Texas Jack" as far as CASE is concerned is the 92 pattern at closed length of 4". There is a very similar shape frame. CASE 32 pattern that is 3-5/8" closed. The pictured knives are from 1965' to 1970'

Do they look similar to the knife you want? Do the markings on the blade tang look familiar?

Thank you, Jerry! This is a huge help. I did searches on Google images and came up with every sort of Case knife regardless of what search parameters I put in. The small knife is the pattern I'm looking for. I remember it has a slight serpentine frame and the squared off bolsters. It also had the clip blade and the pen secondary. And both of your samples have the right shield. A version of the small one is what I'm looking for. Your pictures are a huge help. Thank again.

I found the Case pattern reference pages! When I was reading the length of the Case 32 as 3 5/8's it seemed a little long. I'm now thinking that the Case 33 is more appropriate with a length of 2 5/8's small pen knife.

I remember the knife being a jack knife rather than a pen knife but the frame was 2 5/8's. The tang stamps were just like the ones on your knives Jerry.

Glad to help Brian. There are some other knives that may fit the bill. Biggest question...

Blades on same end (Jack) or blades on opposite ends (pen). The 33 only came as a two blade pen and a 3 blade Stockman. EDIT: Did not see your post, looks like you confirmed it is a Jack.

If it is a Jack and smaller, I think it may be a 6244 CASE knife. No ruler in this picture but significantly smaller at 3-1/4".

Let me know if this looks more like it. Also, does the stamp look like the pic if you recall?

Hey Brian,

Not sure that CASE made a jack knife at 2-5/8" that fits the description you gave. Also, not many sub 3 inch CASE jacks on top of that. Some but mostly bareheads or not fitting your description.

Would like to continue to help if I can. If the 6244 I posted at 3-1/4" I posted does not fit the bill, it may be of use for you to look at this post of CASE Jacks and maybe one of the pics will click as a possible match...

Just a thought for the grist mill. While it would be nice to find an exact duplicate of your dad's knife, it may not be absolutely necessary. He might be just as thrilled to receive something that fit the general specifications for his old knife. I.E. length, blade config., handle material & general shade of handle color. However, I do understand your drive to get the exact same thing but sometimes it's the act and the thought that fits the bill.

You are very welcome and glad to help! Are you pretty sure that the 6244 is the one? The 42 pattern is the smallest/shortest length that I know of that one may consider to be a Texas Jack. As I said, The 92 pattern is called that but one might call the 44 pattern a small Texas Jack based on shape.

There are only a couple of CASE Jacks that are smaller that come close to your description. One in particular but has more rounded bolsters. The 6227 pattern is 2-3/4" closed. Pretty much a watch or coin pocket carry in my opinion. Not for heavy duties by any means but still a fine little knife. take a look at the pics, please disregard the shield as these are delrin 1976' knives. I have a XX era somewhere. but just frame for now as I said before.

Whatever it ends up being as far as pattern, I will try to assist if you like with finding one. No dog in this fight or money made for me. I guess I am just a softie for helping someone replace a knife like Dad's. Done this a time or two before. Dad's knives or guns are a sacred thing to any son! Or you can find what you can on your own. Check out the AAPK stores also. So fine honest folks there.

No problem on the help my friend. That is what this forum is all about. Glad to help.

The 33 pen is a pretty damn small knife as I said. You mentioned Texas Jack, maybe your Dad referred to it as that. If so, based on length, I think your target knife is a 6244. Might be considered as a small Texas Jack to some as I stated.

It is always hard to tell without "knife in hand" as we say. Worst case, you pick up a 6244 and see if that jogs the memory. If not, pick up a 6233 pen. These knives will not set you back much cash wise. Less than 100 bucks dependent on era/year. Probably much less than 100 bucks dependent on knife condition. Either way, even if wrong, you have a couple of fine knives and we have narrowed the field if not a match for Dad's original knife.

Here is a picture of a 6233 pen next to an old quarter. Very small but cool pen. I carry this particular one often in the coin pocket.

Since one of the knives I have that belonged to my Dad is a XX Era Redbone 6333, the 33 model is one I've built a small collection of. Most of the 33's I've picked up are the 2 bladers of various ages and I also have a nice XX 6244 in Redbone that I carry sometimes. I'm out of town until early next week, but when I return I'd be glad to send you pictures of what I have and promise you a very fair price due to the sentimental value the knife would hold for you.
