Happy 4th & We Take Grub Seriously Around Here.

Post by 9ball »

Here is a shot of my personal Victory Garden.

The Ground Hogs a.k.a. Woodchucks wiped out half of it within one afternoon. Google these things, they are LOVED ::disgust::  ::disgust::
"Ole Painless" and I declared War that early evening and eRataKated the Devils :D Bill Murry can't touch this. ::tu::
The corn was saved, you can get it in a jar anyway.

9ball :)

Course I ain't as "High Tech" as Sunburst and don't have as many Rules to follow on the Hunt ::tounge:: .

Man I love your victory garden ::tu:: ::tu:: My wife and I have been talking about planting one for months.

Hey I wanna see a picture of ole painless.. ::nod:: Woodchuck huh..? That is something I have not had the pleasure or displeasure of messing with...

I like the no rules attack with a low tech assault, it keeps things simple... :D

What all did you have planted??

Silver Queen corn, Mr. Stripey tomatoes and two or three other varities, a few radishes are left and okra. Half runner beans, that and clover are Target's farvorite food. All kinds of onions. Those little red taters and giant sunflowers, waddy melons and summer squash.
One hog can eat up to a pound and a half of green stuff a day.

"Ole Painless" is a basic 12 guage single shot Stevens shotgun. I got some smoke bombs from the Co-op and drop them in their escape hole. I really duct tape them to a long stick and cramp it back in the hole as far as I can get. Then a put up my lawn chair and set there at the entrance/exit hole. When they poke that head up the first time, I cock my weapon. Second time it comes up, I take aim at about an inch below the hole's lip. Third time is the charm, there is just a wet spot and hair left down in there.
Then all I got to do is put a couple of shovel fulls of dirt and move on to the next one. I am so close the wadding even goes into them. ::tu::

One thing about ground hogs, they will defend their hole/home, their teeth sound like a chain saw when they come after you, kinda scary. We set here one morning looking out the kitchen window and watch a Lab and a part-Pit Bull take one on in the field next to us. They fought for about an hour and both dogs finally gave up an limped off.
Their hide is tough too, I have shot them at 25 maybe 35 yards with a .22 and it just bounces off and they stand there and look back at you. Cute little devils.

PETA would be up here if I gave out my secret weapon, so all I will say it is a red devil and I will not lye to you. :)
