Factory rivet suppliers?
I wonder if there is a supplier that might carry the rivets found on the case knives.
Do yall know of any?
I thought about using small brass tack threaded in from the back side and peened over on the front if i can not find any
Thanks

there are many knife supply stores on line that carry full lines of nickle and brass rod in all the different sizes required. i have gotten excellent service from texas knife supply. jantz supply is another. you should use proper replacement pins for a better job.

they aint rivets. the different size rods are cut to size, then peened or spun. i would suggest a primer on knife repair. ben kelley's the complete book of pocketlmife repair or adrian harris' knife repair and restoration are two very good books.

Jantz has a larger selection of pin stock including some metric sizes that may be close. You will need calipers to measure the diameter of the pins. Case pins for the most part are not a standard size and you may need to resize the pins a bit. Just chuck them up in a drill press and resize using a piece of sandpaper with a wood block backing while drillpress is running.

Take apart a new Case and you will see what i am talking about. This is NOOOOOOOTTTTTTTT a pin that has been peened. I have peened hundreds of pins, I know what they look like. Unless they have the most advance peening technology in the world that makes a perfectly flat and round head on one side and a hole in the other side. I guess i need to take a pic.
Thanks

wildcat these flat heads are accomplished by some mass producer for the case company, I know what you are speaking of, they used similar types of pins on schrade knives as well. They are indeed like a tiny cutlers rivit (female end)

i understand now. part of mass producing the knives. they don't seem to be made that way on the older knives. would be a time and effort saver. newer case handle material is thin and i suppose they could have them made to length for their application. different lengths would be required for different material thickness.

Yep, I'm afraid I'd need a picture as there are many kinds of rivets out there and I just can't picture it right now.wildcat wrote:yes, they are hollow on one end and i'm assuming there is a jig that reaches from the inside and speards the outside flat to hold it in.
i forgot to get a pic. i try to remember tomorrow.

It looks like what you posted is the same as the ones I posted. Mine are still crimped down, holding the scale to the liner.
I think that type is just crimped to hold the scales on. Much easier to do by machine than peening a pin.
To answer your question:
No, I don't know where you can find them. I think it would be very easy to replace them with peened pin stock.
Hope this helps,
Dale
