Schrade Walden NY Whittler

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Schrade Walden NY Whittler

Post by Hak1911 »

So I won this little gem off EBay/FleaBay
I am guessing from the Post your Latest Schrade thread I'm safe in calling it a 836.

All the Blades have the mark
SCHRADE
WALDEN
NY
on the Tang
however one blade has the Tang Stamp on the Inside or the wrong side of the blade
Have a look
The Smal Blades were tipped by a previous user/owner ::uc:: so I whipped out the Kerney and Foot 6" Double Cut mill file and reshaped the tips.
It is a Awsome Knife will be tops in my EDC rotation.

That's a nice one. That tang stamp is odd, but I do think it's original to the knife.

I can't see the tang stamp clearly in these images, but if the "U.S.A." is missing, it would be their earliest tang stamp after the Schrade Cut.Co. stamps were discontinued. How long it took to add the "U.S.A." is unclear (1948, '49, '50, '51, '52, '53????). This may forever be shrouded in mystery. It is obviously from that early period after the sale of the company to the Baers.
