I recently taken an interest in Schrade Knives, but here's something I don't understand. Maybe some of you Schrade guys can enlighten me.
I've seen a few Schrade knives as well as sets called "3rd Generation", but I've never seen anything that says "2nd Generation". So how does that work? Is there such a thing called "1st Generation"? And if so, how come I've never seen any of these? All I've ever seen is 3rd Gen. Very confusing.

Howdy!
Far from a Schrade expert here... but from what I'm seeing, 3rd Gen seems to refer to who was designing the new stuff when it came out in '83 / '84. There's some pretty good information in this old thread in the link below...

Re: Schrade 3rd Generation
I believe it refers to the Buley family. Not sure if I have that spelled right, but I'm pretty sure that's it. I think Harold was one of the designers of the knife series. At the time there were three generations of his family working at Schrade so they coined the name from that. Harold made it into some of the catalogs too, I think there's a picture of him working on the World War II set in one of them.

Thank you for that information, it was very helpful.
Still have a lot to learn about Schrade but I'm enjoying the process.
