The Game

About 20-25 years ago, I was part of a close circle of knife-buddies. We would meet irregularly, about every other month, at our friends BBQ shack, for show and tell. Everybody brought their latest goodies, and after supper, we would take turns passing stuff around, inviting offers, or just to "show off". You get the idea....

Mostly knives, but several guns, Confederate relics, etc changed hands at every meeting. Kinda like an auction, but not the same, either.

We also played "The Game" occasionally, between good friends. Here's how that worked : Suppose I was drooling over one of your knives, but pocket change was short, or the wife would throw a fit, etc etc. The seller (if he feels like it), sets a ridiculously low price, say $10. But, there's one rule... I can't sell the knife, except back to the seller, and the price is forever more, fixed. It's kinda like puttin' money in the bank - no interest, but you get to own and enjoy the knife. And you can always get your money back.

So, I went to my uncle's funeral a coupla days ago, and my cousin comes up to me, and he's ready to sell me a knife that I sold him, years ago. I haven't recieved it yet, but I've got an original Morseth stag-handled, drop-point hunter in the mail, for $50. I can't sell it, of course, but I'll find some way to post a picture, when it gets here.

It's a good way to pass around the "neat stuff", and nobody ever loses any money ! Of course, when your buddy dies, the game's over.

Hey, i played that GAME once with my brother-in-law. I sold him my 1959 Ford F100 shortbed stylside for $50. He didnt know how to play the game because he drove the truck for 6 months than sold it to another guy for $25!!!!! He's not my brother-in-law anymore. But congrats on that Morseth, cant wait to see a picture
