Schrade Walden 219, Special Bone
I found this little critter that has that special bone that Schrade Walden used for a time. I drool over the ones that THAWK has posted before, a 233, 825 and an 881. This #219, though not impressive in size, it does have that nice jigged bone and full polished mark side of the clip. Same as THAWK's knives. If anyone knows the story on these I would like to read it. I don't see many with this type of bone and coloring. Maybe it's just a fluke? I noticed that the Schrade Walden 895, Coast Cutlery Co. knife looks like one of these. Please post any patterns you might have with this kind of bone.

Mustanger that is an awfully clean and beautiful knife you have there. And I'm with you 100% on the beauty of the bone. Exceptional.

Here is an 834. I am thinking late 1950s.

Thanks, dogleg. It didn't look like much in the bad pics for the auction but I thought it would clean up nice. It didn't take much.

Yep! That's what I'm talking about! I wonder how many patterns they did like that. And for how long?

This is not "Rogers Bone" and i think the Rogers factory burned done in mid 1950's. Likely this bone was used after this and until the Delrin take-over beginning 1960.
Note this is conjecture on my part, not established fact at this point.

The bone on this 236 looks awful similar

Hey Gunsil, I wonder why the M&G blade etch on the schrade? I see why it is one of your favorites.

Yep! The jigging looks the same too. Maybe THAWK will see this thread and post his. He has three real nice examples. I'd give my left nut for his SW 825. And maybe my right nut for the 881. At my age I don't use them anyway and would enjoy the knives more.dweb1897 wrote:The bone on this 236 looks awful similarSCHRAD WALDEN 236 (1).jpgSCHRAD WALDEN 236 (2).jpg

That's a beauty alright. It has the wavy kind of jigging. A lot of the ones I've seen appear to have a wavy groove cut in them. Like the partitions between the indentations were cut out. You can see that on the mark side of my 219. Your's is perfect!Gunsil wrote:Here's one of my favorite mint Schrade Waldens.DSCN3559.JPGDSCN3562.JPG

With your 856 having that kind of handle it bolsters Cal's estimation of the late 1950s. Nice pair!

Earlier M&Gs were made by Ulster and usually tang stamped M&G. After Ulster was taken over by Schrade and later closed M&Gs were made by Schrade. I am sure you know M&G never made any knives.

Thanks Gunsil, I knew that but it was not at the forefront of my brain. Were they a hardware store in Ohio?

Thanks. It seems that the 856 did not survive the transition to swinden/delrin.Mustanger wrote:KnifeSlinger#81 wrote:Here is an 881 and an 856 with the same bone.
