Is this Case Real or a Fake?
Something doesn’t look or sound right about this one. Not saying it’s fake just wanting to know?

I don’t like it. These remarks are unresearched so may be inaccurate. The tang on the pen blade looks wrong. I don’t recall seeing a pattern with this frame. As far as I know the teardrop (?) bolster is unusual for a Tested knife (028 pattern?). The shield size (small) looks out of proportion as do the nail nicks (large). The shape of the large spear blade looks off to me. The Rogers(?) bone jigging doesn’t look like the Case variant to me.

Ralph, I noticed the same things myself. When you look at the back of the primary blade it doesn’t look correct. Also that jigging seems like some thing not installed at the factory. Bolsters look incorrect also. Don’t know what to say about the tang stamp.

Any knife, regardless of its marking, its handles or its condition, that is shaped like that and listed on Ebay, is immediately suspect as far as I am concerned.

Re: Is this Case Real or a Fake?
I don't like anything about it. First of all it doesn't even look "Case". The shield appears to be from a late 60s or 1970s knife. The 28 pattern is a fat rounded teardrop, not serpentine and has a rounded cap, not pointed. The 028 has a pointy cap but it is a slim teardrop, also not serpentine, with a long slender spear master.

For me, that is an "across the room" fake. Not a Case pattern, not Case bone, shield too small. Looks like a knife made up out of one of the Queen-made Winchesters.

Go ahead and call it a fake Sharp...
The only thing that is Case about it is the letters that are used!

Thanks guys, I wasn’t completely convinced it was fake, but it sure didn’t look right to me.

Re: Is this Case Real or a Fake?
In addition to the comments above, it is extremely rare to see a Case jack knife with the nail nicks on the same side of the knife. Usually, the secondary is on the back side of the knife with the nick also on the back side.

Re: Is this Case Real or a Fake?
I think it could also be suspect because the Case Tested stamp which is usually on the primary blade, is on both. Usually the main or larger blade has the "Case" logo and the opposite or smaller blade has the model info, would this be a correct observation also guys? I see the two stamps when I enlarge the photo. Additionally I don't recall a dog leg pattern with double bolsters, I should get out Steves book and look see. I notice the knife sold to some poor soul, I we are correct, for $164- I believe

Re: Is this Case Real or a Fake?
It's not unusual to see a Tested era case stamped on two or more blades and no pattern number. Some had pattern numbers, many didn't.

Agreed Charlie. A commonly counterfeited pattern that you will see in a variety of tang stamps.RobesonsRme.com wrote:Any knife, regardless of its marking, its handles or its condition, that is shaped like that and listed on Ebay, is immediately suspect as far as I am concerned.

Re: Is this Case Real or a Fake?
With my standard caveat of "I'm a fixed blade guy", without getting into all the "real" reasons it's a fake, my first thought about it being a fake is that the shield is riding really proud.
I always thought (bad habit, I know
) that the shields were countersunk. Am I really off base with that assessment? Or am I simply clueless as always?

I cannot speak for Case or any other manufacturer, but you will see absolutely genuine and old, pre-WWII, Robeson knives with a shield that we would consider "high".
