Remington R415 - thoughts?

Not vintage pattern numbers stamp, not a Remington bail, to small of a easy open cut out, could be correct handles, as they used those type of handles, tang stamps look modern. Not much going for it that is right.
And a R415 should have pyremite handles with no bail.

I believe it is an Imperial brand knife with fake and poorly marked Remington blades. Nothing really Remington about it.

The Stewart and Ritchie book lists a R415 as having a bomb shield. That handle material kind of resembles the black composite I've seen on some straight line Remingtons, though I've never seen it peeling away that badly. The blades look new, despite corrosion on the tangs. The tang "stamps" look as though they were etched using a resist where the circle was drawn twice for some reason and the M in "made" is really wonky. The numbers are in a font I don't believe I've seen in any Remington number stamp, and I've never seen them that out of line/poorly spaced.

The frame really looks like an Imperial, the pins and bolsters look like they match up perfectly. The number stamp looks like the original was ground off and then cold stamped individually.

Shields in a book are not a true indicator of what should be on the knife. They used different shields in different era's and on contract knives. So just because the shield doesn't match the book that wouldn't authenticate or discount a Remington knife.

That's good to know, thanks for the info! For some reason I'd thought that the descriptions from the Steward and Ritchie book were direct from the catalogs, but it looks like the model descriptions in the catalogs I have (C30 and the 1936 Remington DuPont) don't say anything about shields. I wonder if Steward and Ritchie added that info based simply on the pictures.

There book just lists "a" shield that was used but that doesn't mean exclusively.
