I don't know if this knife is right or not. Looks as if at least the blade on the bottom end may have been replaced at some point. The pin is crudely finished. Also has interesting markings on the back of the master blade. Is it XX / RM / 318? If it has Christmas tree handles should those initials be CT? What would RM stand for?

RM stands for RED MOTTLED, which is early Case Christmas Tree Case language. I haven't looked at the rest of the knife yet but I will.

Bob, looking at the rest of the knife, it looks ok with the exception that yes it has had some work on at least the small blade end and possibly the other end too. Probably an early Tested knife as the small blades have the Bradford era like Oval Tested stamp. Could have had a blade or two replaced but nothing looks non Case. Poor job repinning but probably considered a user so they didn't care. Way overpriced!!

Tom is it common for a knife from the era to have the nail pull extending down through the top of the tang? In more modern knives they do a really good job of controlling that. Thank you for your comments on the knife.

Bob, I can’t say that I have encountered that myself so I would say not common but also not sure that it means it is not authentic. Looks like maybe it was repinned with steel pins as well but really hard to evaluate a knife with out having it in hand.
