William Dartt Limited 1898 Finally Completed

I posted this little bugger on May 10, and just got around to doing something with it.

(I couldn't resist snagging this little gem for $10 shipped, and I figured I didn't have much to lose. The only reference I can find to it is in Goins, William Dartt Limited c.1898 and another identical William Dartt c.1898, but in Germany. I am amazed that despite being so bent up, the primary blade...)

Once I got it apart, of course it was in worse shape than I originally thought. So, I straightened everything out as best I could and reoutifitted it with new undyed smooth bone scales. The main blade took an incredible amount of "krinking" to get reasonably straight and I am surprised that it didn't break. After I got done, I noticed the little bowtie shield still sitting in the container where I store my "on deck" projects. Oh well, I'm not gonna take this one apart again, and I think I may like it better without a shield anyway.

P.S. - I still haven't been able to find out anything else about Dartt, other than the Goins reference to 1898 and this one post on AAPK: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=60276&start=15#p700506

Mike, I used to heat blades before rebending, but the downside is you risk taking out the temper. A while back I saw a thread here on AAPK about the "krinking" method (I may not have spelled that word correctly) and that is what I did here. It is a LOT more time consuming, but I haven't broken any yet and it works if you are patient, which is not easy for me.

Looks great! Good choice on the handles. Were the original handles also white bone, or ivory?
Either way, you brought it back really close to the original look, which the old gentleman deserved!

When I first got it, I was wondering the same thing myself Reverand. Oh boy, IVORY! But I think I can see the "haversian canals" under my magnifier, so it must just be old bone that has turned a light yellow over 122 years. Thanks for all the kind words!
