Blade cleaner.

Just received this in the mail. I actually bought it for another job, but on inspection thought it would be a good tool to clean and remove rust and pit marks from knife blades. I firstly used it to clean up just an old knife that i use for dirty jobs, then with some rubbing alcohol used to to remove some rust from a very old disused knife that i have. It is really good, so to those of you that use your knives this would be a really good thing to have in your knife maintenance tool kit/box. It is a fibre glass scratch pen for cleaning metal and jewelry, you wind the tip and the fibreglass tip is extended out, and you just wind out more as it wears. You can put some polish on it if you want to polish metal. I have also shown 2 replacement pieces of fibreglass, though i would suspect the original to last a long time. They are not expensive, i paid the equivalent of $10 US and $ 2 US for the pen and replacement tips respectively. Sorry if the photo is a bit dodgy, but if you enlarge it you will be able to see the fibreglass tip protruding from the pen. It is German made and seems to my eye to be of good Quality. I would suggest you look at getting one, they are good.

These are widely used in the electronics industry to scrape oxidation off of hard to reach contacts. Speciality companies also make fiberglass handheld brushes (sort of like a fingernail brush) and fiberglass wheel brushes which might be better suited to larger surfaces like knife blades and frames. Though they are a bit more aggressive, I find inexpensive brass brushes from the dollar store to be a good alternative.

These are good, and as i said cheap, not cheaply made, but in price. I bought mine from a hobby store supplier of all things to do with hobbies, tools, jigs, glues etc.. They are on ebay, so i am sure amazon as well but i rather support local Australian companies where i can and i have an account where i bought it, so if there was a problem can be easily sorted. So i would suggest, Amazon, Ebay or any good hobby tool supplier or jewelry industry supplier, they are used in the jewelry trade. As another poster said, you could also look at an electrical trade supplier. Hope this helps, they are a handy tool to have in your tool box.

I used it with some rubbing alcohol , ooo steel wool to remove rust, then polished it up with some metal polisher, came up really well. Hope this helps. Is it hot where you are? Reading about a lot of hot and humid weather over there.

That's the one. We are about 56deg. everyday at the moment, with not much breeze, so pretty good for winter. I feel for you my friend, i can't do heat as i have gotten older.

I have one of those from Griot’s Garage, it is for touch ups on cars. I found that it works great to clean off any adhesive that was left on the liners at the factory. Over time that adhesive can turn black when in contact w/ brass. These work great to take that off and leaves the brass shiny and new looking. I wouldn’t use this on a blade unless the blade is already tarnished. This will scratch the mirror polish on blades, so anyone thinking about using this to take off carbon spots on an otherwise pristine blade, beware.

Good to know, i use all my knives, so none of mine are in what you would call pristine condition.

Absolutely Mike. I have probably over 50 different cleaners, polishes, conditioners, micro fiber towels, tools, machines and more. There isn’t any better than this. If you haven’t tried it yet, their best of show detailer is probably the best product that they have ever produced. I can not believe how much better my cars look after I use this on them. I hardly ever wax anymore with this stuff around. They have won awards for this product, and rightfully so.
