X-Timer Clip Screws?

I bought a used 6OTX for peanuts, in really rough shape, as I wanted something I can use and carry, since this is a somewhat hard to find model. It's nicer than the new Buck 110LT, but someone's lost the clip and screws that hold it on. I can get the clips themselves for less than a dollar, but I don't know what screws it uses. Anyone here know?

That is a stumper. I don't know what that knife is, but if it is just a user, there is always JB Weld epoxy.

I took a look at the 2004 catalog and I don't think there is anything uncommon being used. Once upon a time I worked for Cords Canada (a fastener distributer) so I know a bit about machine screws.

I won't go in too deep and will just give a practical answer to your question.

Every screw I see have Torx drives. The screws holding the clip on appear to be short "pan head" machine screws with a Torx drive.

That said, you could use any pan-head screw (Robertson, Phillips, slot... whatever). Robertson and Torx grab better and aren't as easily stripped compared with Phillips or slot. Torx are also used as a "security" solution because not everybody has a set of Torx screwdrivers.

You need to make sure it's the right thread. Is it metric or Imperial? Imperial screws are listed by screw-size (diameter), threads-per-inch and length. Metric screw have there own notation.

What would I do?

I would bring the clip and knife to a good hardware store. I would grab some long screws of various (close looking) diameters and try to thread them into the hole. Try Imperial and metric variations until you find the right one. Don't force anything. Whether it's a metric or an Imperial, one of them will screw in flawlessly. Use long screws (1" plus) to test with so they are easy to hold and turn with your fingers.

Once you know what diameter and thread to use (4-48 etc) then try different length pan-heads (in that diameter and thread) until you find the right length of screw that tightens clip to body without bottoming-out.

I'd buy a Robertson pan-head in the correct thread and length. That way you don't have to buy a (less often used) Torx screwdriver too. If you want it to match the other screws then Torx is what you are after. Pawn shops often have cheap Torx drives.

...or wait for the right ones to appear miraculously in your mail-box as did a skeleton key that I recently needed.

I thought I would have the proper screws for that clip, but it appears that I do not. I check through a whole drawer full of small Schade parts including the screws, but I didn't have any of that were small enough.
