Help please with Union knife

I just purchased this old Union Cutlery knife and it looks funny to me, the way the blade sits in the channel when it's closed. The nail nick is way back also. This is the first Union I have so it's old and maybe I'm just not use to how they looked way back in the day. The blade appears short to me also. Any and all feedback appreciated. Thank you.

It’s got some beautiful bone handles. I see nothing wrong with the rest of it but I’m no expert. Some of the KA-BAR gurus will probably know.
