Myrtlefaye is back so buyer beware. https://www.ebay.com/sch/myrtlefaye/m.h ... 7675.l2562 Few years back myrtlefaye was a significant source of potentially counterfeit knives displayed here. If memory serves me correctly a tractor trailer load of parts were attributed to him. He doesnt show how the back springs match up. Some that i have seen are a give away of being cobbled.

His signature long pulls running clean into the tang stamps on a NYKC and C. Platts. ::barf:: ::barf:: ::barf::

I guess the guy cutting those into the blades isn't always good about putting the brakes on soon enough.

I can't believe someone bid $100 on that "Walden" knife with the broken blade that he has labelled as a one arm knife. I don't even think those are Walden handles or that the blade is original to those handles. Who can be sure with all the sleight of hand that idiot pulls. That kind of garbage is really bad for the collecting community.

Eric, so correct. When someone becomes interested in knives, or any other hobby and collecting, and they get burnt by a conman/scammer, they soon lose interest and are lost to the hobby forever. Take care, loving you new venture. ::nod:: ::tu::

I notice all his Schrade Cut Co knives has the same tang stamp. It could be a original stamp for all I know but it funny there's no variation on the stamps. All the Schrade Cut Co knives I have the "R' in Schrade is a big clear "R"
Maybe I have to much time on hand. :D

Sad state of affairs to see this purveyor of reworked garbage with 100% positive eBay feedback.

I'm not the brightest bulb in the knife drawer, but even I could see that fake. The old tang stamp not only shows through, but it looks like it was arched stamping too. ::facepalm::

I see some on there now that look …questionable, but some others are interesting.
Im troubled that none of his images allow you to zoom in, and no backs are shown.
Has anyone here actually handled one of his knives?

My opinion is that this knife is a total fake, a couple things I notice right away, every Northfield 2 blade I've handled has both tang stamps on the mark side, the shield looks to be Holley, Northfield may have used it but I don't recall seeing one, many times on Myrtlefayes knives a tang stamp looks cold stamped and is not square to the blade, the impression will be deeper on one side of the stamp and almost non existent on the other side such as the tang stamp this knife.
He posted a couple doozies yesterday and I noticed he is taking photos now where he is covering part of the tang stamp on the main trying to hide the obviously poorly done stamp. If you really look hard at most of his knives they all appear to be worked to some degree.
Two real Northfields I have in my collection.

Unbelievable the money people spend on such garbage. Known here on AAPK to be a prolific faker but seems many elsewhere are happy to from him.

I will confess, I bought a knife from him 7 or 8 years ago. I knew it had been posted in this forum that they were fakes. I was curious and wasted $65.00 or 70.00 dollars. I carried this knife for a while and showed it to my knife friends. So here it is for all knifers to see.

Thanks all for making this topic, saved me some heartache. I was looking around for a Tidioute and found this auction https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-TIDIOU ... SwozJgYP6V

I was immediately skeptical of this auction due to the low quality pics, and then I saw the seller and thankfully I had just read this thread a few days prior.

A tip for people new to the hobby of collecting vintage/antique knives, like me, who do not know how to spot a fake because we are too green and don't know the ins and outs of the various knife manufacturers. This tip can be applied to not just vintage knives but a great many things:

1. Low quality pics should raise red flags. This is especially true if any of these three things are true; the item costs a lot of money, the seller has a lot of high dollar items on auction or previously sold, and/or the item is rare.
Simply put we live in a day and age where even basic smartphones can take decently high resolution pictures, so there is no good excuse (but certainly a bad one) for low resolution pictures when trying to sell something online. This isn't to say all low res pictures equal fraud, but if I had a bunch of rare and uncommon knives that I am trying to sell for upwards of a few hundred dollars, I damn sure will be listing them with good quality pics and enough of them (if for no other reason than to save myself the headache of people asking for more/better pics).

Looking thru his old feedback I'm amazed at all the repeat buyers. They can't all be lucky and get good ones every time.
Does he somehow manage to get negative feedback removed?
My pictures with a 5 year old Iphone are better.
On eBay you can lighten and correct a lot in a poor picture.
