An Old Box With Some Old Knives In It

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

An Old Box With Some Old Knives In It

Post by jxr1197 »

When I found this old counter display it was pretty dinged up and whatever rack it might have come with was long gone, but the glass was good and the box had potential. I had it restored and designed a rack that would sit in it and use the mirror on the back wall the way I imagine it was originally intended. With the box and rack done all there was left to do was fill it with some of my favorite old knives.

It's kind of neat the way the rear row displays off the mirror.

WOW!!!

What a display! That case is BEAUTIFUL!!

I am so envious of those wonderful Jacks you have displayed!!!! That is even more amazing than the case!

If you have one that is bad shape (and wouldn't mind getting rid of it), I sure would like to have it.
(All 4 of mine are ones I have repaired. Except for the one I got from Cal.)

Once again.... WOW!!!

A bunch of these knives have had work done and the rest are used to some extent. The only two knives that are in mint condition and 100% original are the 2OT and 3OT from the factory collection.

Thanks. I never thought I'd get a chance to own one so I had Kaleb make me a couple of 'clones'. The two knives in the pic to the right have sheepfoot blades that he made, but having the actual 3OT tang stamp is humbling. I have read there were 12 of them. I also read there were 25. Both very small numbers. I haven't seen any others, let alone a mint example.

WOW.... that is a real BEAUTY!

I have a 2OT that came to me with the main blade already modified by the PO. It had wood covers too.....
SO.... I just cleaned it up and put some bone covers on it and I display it "as is"....

This is how I got it......

SW 2ot_3.JPG

And here it is after I put on the bone covers.......

after 1.JPG

Probably as close as I will ever come to owning a 3OT.....

I'm not even a little surprised you have three :D . The one up top (jam packed with pearl autos  ) looks the most similar, but I'm really digging the one with the Everlastingly Sharp on it. Now that I'm seeing it with three more examples of inserts it occurs to me there were probably lots of ways these were set up. One thing you'll notice on mine is the top opens. That was a change made before I got it. I'm guessing the key for the back door was lost so they pulled the top off and re-attached it with a piano hinge. I was going to switch it back, but I kind of like it this way. I did replace the huge white ceramic knob for a very small brass one that looks much better IMO.
