Boker Solingen tang stamps

Post by kossetx »

Evening folks, I remember reading one time that Solingen has real strict rules governing putting Solingen on a knife. I got a Boker trapper and it is stamped.

H. Boker
& co
Solingen

But it is obviously newer. Were they imitated by china using a Solingen stamp? Thanks, mp

Although I have heard they are liberal about the small amount of finishing and packaging that it takes to state that a product is "made" there.
But Boker is still producing knives in Solingen. And of course selling knives of Asian origin. Check out smkw.com to see examples.

It is my understanding that in order for the knife to be marked "Solingen" it has to have been manufactured there. If, on the other hand, it is marked "Germany" a minimum amount of the total process has to have been performed in Germany. I'm not sure about the total extent of the work that would be required to make it legal for the "Germany" stamp but it might be no more than putting the final edge on the blade or the final polish of the knife.

That’s a genuine recent production made in Solingen Germany. Beer barrel covers c75 carbon steel blades. Great knives. There what I call real Boker’s .

Unlike the China parts “ Tree Brands “ with the Germany shield and are stamped “ high carbon stainless “

Thanks Phil. It’s gets confusing for me when they start talking about components, percentage of, etc… Kinda of like going to the Chevy dealership and reading the darn window sticker.

Thanks EBM, Glad to know. I avoid china stuff if possible and having a knife would be a definite no. Where in TX are you?
