Took the plunge on a Russian Prison Knife

Post by charlesf20 »

This knife rolled in Friday. Got the itch from an associate here at AAPK.
It is a Russian Prison Knife sent from the Ukraine. It took a little time to get here
but not so bad considering the current circumstances and it was well
worth the wait. It was love at first sight with this artsy piece so I just went full
throttle for it. And am glad I did.

So tell me Charles what am I looking at here? Definitely not some crude shiv made on the sly in the prison shop as a self defense weapon, which is what the name “prison knife” conjures up to me. Instead I think I see a pretty fancy automatic (or maybe assisted opening) dirk with a nice handle (is that inlaid wood?). What’s the story behind it and why is it called a prison knife?

charlesf20, Your knife is exotic and beautiful. Any information you can pull out will be interesting. Personally, I would not be shocked if prisoners
were allowed to set up a full scale knife production company providing all the proper people got their percentage of profits. Too fanciful? Perhaps.

I don't usually ask this and I understand if you prefer not to answer, but can you give some indication of the cost?

I'm interested in blade material (if you know), approximate weight and length, total shipping time from purchase to arrival and opening function.

I know, I'm nosey. 🤑

How did that get through customs? You would likely lose it trying to ship it from the USA to Canada. I like the knife though. Good score!

It shipped from the Ukraine to the US Bob, so he'd of had no import problems, but I've had 2 shipped to me here in Canada from the same seller and neither package was even inspected. He did some creative packaging just in case the packages were inspected but both breezed right through. 8)

Sweet piece! It looks as if it is an expensive motion picture "prop". (I'd be willing to bet that It could star in a motion picture here in the US of A).

It is very nice! ::tu:: ::handshake::

I, too, took the plunge. Ordered at Thanksgiving, just arrived today. Nice weight, perfect functionality and I love the detail. Has a rifle profile when open.

Very cool John! ::tu:: You chose a really nice model! I particularly like the almost all-metal handle and the rifle profile! The engraving looks to be quite well done as well! Congratulations! ::handshake:: 8)

You are most welcome John my friend! ::handshake:: I glad you're happy with your new knife, I'd really hate to give an endorsement only to have you disappointed with your purchase. If I'm not mistaken you are now on Mike's email list that he sends videos, pictures, and prices to whenever a new knife is available, so be sure to read his emails cuz I'm sure you're gonna see other models that will tempt you. Also, if you do Facebook you can search "Mike Kovalenko-Artistic Switchblade Knives", because he does auctions from there where there are more possibilities. Enjoy your new knife, it sure is a beauty! 8)
